Against Me! is a punk band from Gainesville, Florida formed in 1997 by singer and guitarist Laura Jane Grace. Thought there have been many lineup changes, since 2001 she and guitarist James Bowman have stayed in the band. Against Me! released three studio albums independently and moved to Sire Records to release New Wave in 2007. In 2011 the band launched their own record label, Total Treble Music, to release future albums.
In 2012 Laura Grace came out as transgender and began transition to a living as a woman. The band released their sixth studio album Transgender Dysphoria Blues independently in January 2014 to critical acclaim and it debuted as their most commercially successful album.
