Last month while crossing West Broadway, I came across Peter Smith. Peter’s studio is located on a curb facing the busy and fashionable streets of Soho. He transforms wire mesh from screen doors into wonderful works of art. Watching Peter’s fingers mold and kneed the wire into his next creation, I was reminded of the great sax players who use their fingers in a similar way; compressing air to create rich, musical tones.

I’ve always been a huge fan of non-commissioned public street sculptures. The work of Mark Jenkins caught my eye about a year ago while flipping through the Outcasts book by the Lazarides Gallery. His work includes equal parts social commentary and humor, a great equation for great street art.

In late 2011 Brandon released ‘Bright Grey Friday’ a mix of Jazz, hip hop, soul, and electronics. A refreshing mixture of genres and emotions. Last week I took the A train uptown to Washington Heights to meet with NYC artist and photographer, Tobias Batz. I was originally drawn to his works because of his unique blend between street art and fashion photography.
This week we spotlight fashion designer, producer, and architecture student, Devang Shah. Devang recently launched his self-titled fashion line, built and designed a solar powered table with designer Mike Low (profiled in the New York Times) and has worked closely with Cassettes Won’t Listen’s Jason Drake and singer Thimali Kodikara on their music collaboration, Eka.
This week we have a special original mix of beats by Bisco Smith. The sound is reminiscent of the dusty 90′s era where samples and chops reigned supreme. All tracks were produced in Brooklyn and the tape fully crafted in California.

Derek Allen has been making music since a teenager, eventually relocating to Philadelphia to work with Diplo and Mad Decent as a producer and engineer.

We love this use of a QR code on a mural in Vancouver, BC that was recently vandalized with an amateur anarchy tag. The code returns the mural back to it’s original state. If it were only as easy as pasting a QR code on everything that is wrong with this world.

Today we are proud to spotlight long time DLC compadre Bishop203. As a teen without train yards, Bishop203 turned to the concrete canvases of abandoned factory buildings of Connecticut. On an artists journey that led him south to the train yards of Virginia he further developed his craft. Eventually landing back east in Brooklyn, New York City, where you will find pieces of him all over the city. We sat down with Bishop203 for a few to catch up ask a few questions. Enjoy!
