Super hyped to have one of Daylight Curfews long time collaborators and contributors in the spotlight this week. We threw some questions at Turnbull Green and got the drop on his newest and latest. We also wanted to let you know that tonight he is on the radio and in the airwaves over Los Angeles. Check the words out, peep the video, follow the links, and tune into the radio! Enjoy!
What are you currently working on?
I have a couple different projects and artists I am working with right now. I am laying of the solo stuff for a bit and doing more collaborations / joint efforts. I am in a new project with St Luis based musician Braxton Nations and Long Beach based musician / engineer Chris Schlarb where I will just be contributing vocals. We haven’t figured out a name for the group yet, but it is a very awesome “Psych-Rock” sorda sound I have waited along time to be behind, and I am really excited to share it with everyone. I also have a new Hip-Hop album on the way with my long-time friend and label mate Bisco Smith where I am responsible for all of the production and Bisco all the vocals. Your traditional producer / MC relationship. We have been working together on music for years but never forged an entire album together. It is long overdue. As far as the Turnbull Green stuff goes, The Wolf In You (side B) is being mixed and mastered as we speak and due out by the beginning of next year, and my good friend Ryan Moutinho, the drummer from the LA based East-Side Art-Rock band MASKS, has officially joined the group so it will no longer be a solo effort. I guess I got tired of always working alone on things… We may change the name, may not. One thing I know, is that I am really happy he is on board. He is beyond talented. I have a couple Cassettes Won’t Listen and Grimace remixes I did on the way as well.
Tell us about your process from inspiration to execution.
It varies every time. There is no real “one way”.
What have you been listening to lately?
Hmm, allot of older stuff lately… John Frusciante, Elliot Smith, Harry Nilsson, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Joy Division..there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t listen to a Nirvana record as well. As far as new stuff goes, I like this guy Ty Segall from the Bay and this girl Jessica Lea Mayfield from Ohio as well. Cerebral Ballzy is pretty rad, and Jay Reatards band “The Reatards” are really dope too. I listen to allot of music. I could answer this question for days.
If your work had a soundtrack what would it be?
That’s a weird question. Not sure how to answer it. My work is my soundtrack??
What do you want people to take away from your work when they see it?
Some sort of feeling and or emotion outside of complacency or homogeneity.
What does the future hold for you, where can we find you?
Not sure. A life full of surprises! Ha, not sure about this one either, but www.takearecord.com or www.daylightcurfew is a good bet.
