He’s back in the director chair, this time for “Never Faded Away” from Dfalt’s debut full length, Helsinki Beat Tape (Part One).

When Cassettes Won’t Listen decided to make CWL, he was exhausted. Both fans and critics alike had responded positively to his production style and song writing on 2011′s Evinspacey. But in order to keep that momentum going, he would have to write songs, which at that moment wasn’t working.
Phaseone’s great debut, If I Tell U, from Williams Street now has an equally dark and beautiful video. Directed by Daniel Garcia (Killer Mike, LCD Soundsystem, TV on the Radio) the video is a mystical trip featuring a white horse and subtle animation. Well, just watch it. And pick up the man’s 2XLP in the Daylight Curfew store while you’re at it!
It’s a difficult task to pin down Jason Drake. The founder of the NY/LA based artist collective, Daylight Curfew, Drake not only oversees the eclectic roster, he contributes to no less than four projects. Ranging from his work with hip hop group The Freeze Tag to the more experimental-downtempo aesthetic of Eka, Drake refuses to remain too entrenched within one genre. Producing for nearly a decade, these many influences and passions have coalesced across the recent release of Drake’s electronic Cassettes Won’t Listen moniker. Read more at The Frontliner

Respect Magazine has just premiered the debut track off the record “Vedette”, giving it high praise and describing Ekha’s sound as “soulful, but in an affective rather than aesthetic way. In other words, their music feels like soul even though it doesn’t necessarily sound like it. They strip soul down purely to its intense affect….“This can’t be real,” Kodikara sings. But yes it is. And it sounds glorious.”

We inquired a bit more about what he’s up to and what is to come.

Last year’s El-P-produced Killer Mike record, R.A.P. Music, saw it’s fair share of critical praise, leaving fans hungry for more. The melding of El-P’s hard hitting beats from Brooklyn found a perfect match with Killer Mike’s politically charged Southern flow. There was one problem, El-P only appears once, the album’s ninth: “Butane (Champion’s Anthem)”. Well don’t get too down because the duo just posted a snippet from their newest project, Run The Jewels, a project where they’ll share time on the mic while El-P continues to handle the album’s production. The track, “Banana Clipper”, appears on El-P’s Soundcloud and announces this Summer for the album’s release. Dive in and get a taste of what’s headed your way from this dynamic duo.

Brooklyn’s own Rabbi Darkside recently jumped off a kickstarter for his a new project ‘Prospect Avenue’. It’s not everyday here at DLC we push a kickstarter project, but Rabbi D and all the good people involved on this record work everyday to make the world better through hip hop, art, and music. We believe they give to the community endlessly, and its about time for them to receive that energy. Only so they can turn around and once again deliver that goodness back to the people.

As I sit eagerly awaiting the presidential debate airing tonight, where 15 minutes of the 90 will be dedicated to the issue of Health Care, I skim through a New York Magazine article about Grizzly Bear (Grizzly Bear Members Are Indie-Rock Royalty, But What Does That Buy Them in 2012?). The band has grown to be indie darlings and their success has brought them to honored guests on Jimmy Fallon and selling out shows the likes of Radio City Music Hall. Yet some band members remain without health insurance.
Here is a collection of beats we have been creating too mixed in no particular order. You should play these while you handle your busy-ness.
